Scientists discover a brand new blue

Social media has us seeing blue! Scientists have discovered a brand new shade and it’s not only making a name for itself (“YInMn blue” after its composition, to be exact) across the internet, but also in our stores.

Oregon State University chemist Mas Subramanian and his team came were experimenting with materials for electronic applications when they stumbled upon the new hue back in 2009, according to the OSU press release.

So how is this considered a new pigment? Because it’s making it’s way to the marketplace now – mainly for things like paints and plastic. However, there are some comparable shades that are already in clothing stores, making it possible to don the color right now! May we mention that it’s right in time for Fourth of July?
