Adventurers beware! If you’re the typical college student or recently graduated, then I’m sure you don’t have a lot of money to splurge when traveling. And not everyone is equipped to go without a bed. Outside of the typical TripAdvisor and Yelp, these websites will not only save you money, but will help you have a better time while abroad.

1. Trainline

This ingenious phone app allows you to insert the station you are leaving from and your destination. It then finds the cheapest ride there within the dates you are looking to travel. The amazing thing is that it also finds connection trains if it means it’ll be cheaper for you. Note that it’s mostly used in Europe.

Hotels can be expensive if you’re staying abroad for an extended period of time. This alternative is staying in dorm-like rooms with other travelers. This way, you can connect and get the scoop about the area.

3. Airbnb

If you aren’t so keen on sharing your space with strangers, you can opt to rent out rooms or entire apartments/homes from verified locals. They are generally the best people to ask about the area, and these spaces come with a varying degree of amenities that you can pick and choose from depending on your budget.

Flights are often times the most expensive aspect of traveling, and if you’re a student or just recently left the confines of a college education, abuse the discounts offered by StudentUniverse.

5. Google Translate

Unless you’re multilingual or are traveling with someone who speaks the language, it’s likely you’ll need help getting around. The app allows you to translate from your language to that of the country you’re in. Hold the camera up to signs and menus, and it can translate pretty accurately and fast.

6. Free Wi-Fi Finder by JiWire

If you don’t have unlimited data, then you will probably rely on Wi-Fi to communicate with others. To find areas that have Wi-Fi, use the app to find places that offer free Wi-Fii and connect to the internet.

7. SkyScanner

This is another great flight finder app that compares prices on both domestic and international flights to give you the best deal. On the top right corner of the website, you can change to your desired currency, country and language.

8. What’sApp

To avoid using up data, this app allows you to communicate while on Wi-Fi, which is great if you don’t have a phone plan for you to talk freely whenever you want. Send photos and voice messages without worrying about the bill at the end of the month.
