Here’s why you should embrace the rain this summer

Wet, gloomy summers aren’t exactly what we had in mind, but before you curse Mother Nature this is the first time America hasn’t been in a drought in over a decade.

Just last month, 66 percent of Florida was in drought – more than any other state in America, including California which has been in a drought for three years. This caused over a thousand wildfires from Lake Okeechobee to Broward County to occur since the beginning of the year.

According to the National Drought Mitigation Center, droughts can impact us environmentally, economically and socially. Unfortunately I, and many others, had no idea we were in a drought, let alone an extreme drought, until we were in the clear.

In one week, Florida went from 15 percent of the state being in extreme drought to zero. With the Sunshine State losing its drought status, America is the wettest it has been in 17 years.

Embrace the rainy days this summer! We can hit the beach almost year round and these showers are bringing more good than bad.
